Join Us

Jacksonville is one of the most respected volunteer fire companies in Baltimore County. We have a strong dedicated membership, good response statistics, are consistently on the forefront of the latest technology and equipment available. We are always looking for members to join our family.

Types of Members

Membership can begin as early as age 16. Emergency Services members perform firefighting, rescue, and/or emergency medical services as well as fundraising and day-to-day cleaning/maintenance of the station and equipment. Administrative members perform various tasks such as bookkeeping and fundraising and are not required to pursue emergency operations training.

Required Training

All training is provided at no cost. Training is available either in-house or through the Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute (MFRI). Classes are scheduled on evenings, weekends, and over the summer to meet the needs of individuals with full-time employment. It takes about 150 hours of training to become a basic firefighter and 200 hours of training to become an Emergency Medical Technician. Individuals with prior training or experience including those from out-of-state can usually be cleared quickly to begin responding to emergencies.

Tax Benefits / LOSAP Program

The State of Maryland provides retirement benefits to volunteers after 25 years of active service. Also, active members can receive up to a $10,000 tax deduction on their State income taxes in addition to deductions for mileage, clothing, and equipment.

Station Tour / Ride-Along

It is highly recommended that you visit our firehouse prior to applying for membership. This visit will help you decide if your future goals match what we offer. We also offer a ride-along program that allows non-members to respond on emergency and non-emergency calls.

Application Process

The application process is free and takes approximately one month. Upon receipt of your completed application, an interview will be scheduled. The interview is an opportunity to ask specific questions about our firehouse and our policies/procedures. We require a drug test for all applicants and a background check for all applicants over 18. After your interview, background check, and drug testing have been completed and reviewed, our Board of Directors will evaluate your application and vote to bring you into our membership.

If this all sounds like something that you are prepared to embark upon, please complete our online Membership Application.
