Just after 1030 hours on Saturday, units from Station 11 and surrounding companies were dispatched for the report of an apartment fire in the 7700 block of Hillendale Road. Additional information indicated that a fire on the stove was spreading. As units responded, another caller advised that there were people on the balconies. Engine 11 arrived minutes later and reported smoke showing. As command was established, a rescue assignment and a working fire profile were requested, bringing Jacksonvilles Air Unit 478. Crews worked to make an aggressive interior attack to knock down the fire on the first and second floors. Multiple ladders were thrown to upper floors to rescue occupants. Additional medic units were also requested for multiple victims. Units remained on scene to perform salvage and overhaul operations and cleared at approximately 1300 hours.

Jacksonville Units: Air Unit 478

At approximately 1245 hours on Thursday, units were alerted for a motor vehicle accident in the area of Fork Road and Bottom Road. Engine 382, IV 475, and IV 485 responded on the initial call. Units arrived minutes later to find a Chevy Blazer and a Honda Accord had collided in the intersection. The two transport units handled multiple patients with assistance from the engine crew.

Just after 900 hours on Saturday, units from Jacksonville and Long Green were dispatched for a single-vehicle accident in the area of Fork Road and Long Green Road. Engine 382 and IV 475 responded on the call. Units arrived minutes later to find an UTZ truck had struck a telephone pole near the intersection. Personnel worked to stabilize the truck and initiate patient care. After a brief assessment, it was determined that the driver was a priority one patient and had to be flown to the trauma center. MSP Trooper 1 was then requested by E382 with E381 handling the landing site. Units operated on location for just under an hour.

Just after 1100 hours Thursday morning, units from Station 11 and the surrounding area were dispatched for reports of a house on fire in the area of Hillendale Road and Daytona Road. While still enroute, additional information from dispatch advised that it was possibly a shed on fire. Engine 10 arrived minutes later to find a fully involved shed with extrension to a single story dwelling. Crews made a quick knock of the fire and prevented further extension into the home. Jacksonville's Air Unit 478 was requested to refill air bottles used on the scene. Units remained on the scene a short period of time performing salvage and overhaul operations.

At approximately 1000 hours on Friday, Baltimore County fire units were dispatched for reports of a house on fire in the area of Putty Hill Avenue and Harford Road in Parkville. Units responded and arrived minutes later to find heavy fire showing from a two-story single family dwelling. A working fire was then requested, bringing Jacksonville's Air Unit 478. Crews worked to make an aggressive interior attack to knock the fire down. Crews remained on location for some time performing salvage and overhaul operations and assisting the BCoFD Fire Investigation Division. One firefighter was transported to a local hospital for exhaustion.

At approximately 1300 hours on Wednesday, Jacksonville was alerted for a reported 10-50 Advise (a car accident with unknown injuries) in front of Chestnut Grove Church on Sweet Air Rd. Engine 473 responded and arrived within minutes to find a single vehicle that had left the road, struck a parked car, and ran into a concrete sign. Ironically, the same sign was destroyed last March, and repairs had just completed less than two months ago. IV 475 was called to the scene when it was discovered that the elderly driver of the car was seriously injured. It was ultimately decided to airlift the driver to Shock Trauma. E473 set up a landing zone at the scene while the medic crew tended to the injured driver.

At 0932 hours on Saturday, Stations 47 and 39 were dispatched for a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the area of Papermill Road and Cooper Road. Engine 473 and IV 395 responded on the call. E473 arrived minutes later to find an older Acura Integra that had gone around the curve, slammed into a tree, and ended up in the woods. Based on the condition of the vehicle, initial thoughts were that there was either an individual trapped inside or that the accident involved a fatality. Much to the surprise of personnel on the scene, the driver was found speaking with police down the street from the car. He was complaining of minor injuries. He was treated by IV 395 and transported to the hospital.

Early Tuesday evening, approximately twenty members of the local Tiger Cubs Den, along with their families, visited the Jacksonville Volunteer Fire Company. These boys, girls, and adults received a detailed tour of the fire station and a brief look into a day as a firefighter or EMT. They were also taught a variety of fire safety and life saving concepts. The evening ended with a tour of all eight of the trucks that respond out of Station 47 and some of the tools that they carry. The members of JVFC would like to thank all those who came to visit and took interest in all that we do.

At approximately 0600 hours on Saturday, Station 55 and other neighboring companies were dispatched for a report of a dwelling fire. Units arrived minutes later reporting heavy fire showing from a townhouse. A second alarm and working fire assignment were requested. This brought Jacksonvilles Air Unit 478 to the scene. After a brief period of time, the fire was knocked down and the incident was scaled back to the first alarm assignment.

At 1329 hours on Friday, Jacksonville was alerted to respond as a mutual aid request for a reported detached garage on fire on Furnace Road in Jarrettsville’s first-due area. Engine 473 responded on the initial call. While still enroute, units reported a heavy column of smoke from a distance. Engine 1312 and Engine 712 arrived a few minutes later to find a two story dwelling with a fully involved garage that was attached to the house. Engine 473 arrived within a minute of the first companies and worked to pull additional attack lines and keep the fire from spreading throughout the house. The crew also operated in the attic checking for any extension in the upper levels but found none. Command requested two additional engines and an additional truck. This brought Jacksonville’s Engine 471. A quick knock-down by all crews saved the fire from engulfing the entire house. The fire was reported under control at 1353 hours. The dwelling suffered only minor smoke damage. Units worked together performing salvage and overhaul operations for approximately 2.5 hours until finally clearing at 1604 hours. The MD State Fire Marshal's Officer determined the cause of the fire to be from the homeowner placing hot ashes into a plastic trash can in the garage.
