Station 47 Units Handle Large Grass Fire on Stockton Road (Local Box 47-6)

March 14th, 2009

Early Saturday afternoon, the Jacksonville Volunteers were dispatched to a report of a brush fire in the 2600 block of Stockton Road. Engine 473 and Brush 472 responded on the call instantly thanks to another call made directly to the station a minute prior. Units arrived minutes later to find approximately an acre of grass in a large field that was rapidly spreading. Medic 475 joined the other units at the scene to assist. Personnel worked to knock down the outer perimeter of the fire then to wet down and rake up hot spots. Units cleared approximately 30 minutes after arriving.
