Jacksonville Units Respond to Dwelling Fire in Hydes (Fire Box 38-10)

March 10th, 2009

Just after 1600 hours on Tuesday, the Baltimore County 911 Center received a call reporting a house fire in the 4800 block of Hydes Road in Long Green’s first-due area. Minutes later, the dwelling fire assignment was dispatched. Jacksonville Engine 473 responded on the initial call along with other units from the surrounding area. Minutes later, Engine 382 and Engine 473 arrived to find a 2 ˝ story farmhouse with heavy smoke showing. Additional equipment was immediately requested including Jacksonville’s Tanker Support Unit 474. Crews worked to battle intense fire conditions inside the entire house. Water shuttles were set up from both the Hydes Recreation Field and Station 38 underground water tanks. After over an hour, the fire was placed under control. Throughout the incident, additional personnel from Jacksonville and other companies responded to assist crews already on the scene. Initial units remained on location for approximately four hours performing salvage and overhaul operations. Jacksonville’s Engine 471 remained at the station with a standby crew.
