Four Jacksonville Units Respond to Large Woods Fire (Fire Box 38-3)

April 18th, 2008

Early Friday afternoon, units from Long Green and Providence were alerted for multiple reports of woods on fire in the vicinity of Loch Raven Drive and the Loch Raven Resevoir. Units arrived in the area a few minutes later and updated the location to Morgan Mill Road and Manor Road. After personnel and equipment drove over a mile into the woods, they discovered approximately four acres on fire near “The Cliffs.” At this time, command was established and a number of additional units were requested. The request for additional brush trucks and a tanker strike team brought Jacksonville’s Engine 473, Tanker Support Unit 474, and Brush 472 along with a number of other companies. IV 475 also responded to the scene. The fire continued to spread due to dry conditions, high winds, and the lack of water such a long distance from the road. Overall, at least four alarms of equipment were on location including companies throughout Baltimore County with mutual aid from Harford County, York County, and Baltimore City.
