Company 47 Responds to Three Alarm Fire in Sparrows Point (Fire Box 57-2)

September 2nd, 2006

At 1439 hours on Saturday, Engine 57 was alerted for an investigation in the ore handling area of the Mittal Steel Co. This property is a large industrial steel manufacturing Company formerly known as Bethlehem Steel. E57 arrived and advised that they had a four story building with fire showing from the fourth floor. The call was quickly upgraded to a working building fire assignment. After no response from the first-due air unit, Jacksonville’s Air Unit 478 responded. A second alarm was also requested. Crews from the first alarm advanced two pre-connects into the building and worked to knock down the fire. All crews from the first two alarms were committed with many additional tasks required so a third alarm was requested by command. Units were on the scene for many hours doing extensive overhaul. The air unit filled dozens of bottles and eventually made the long trip back to the station.
