Engine Responds to Woods Fire in Hereford (Fire Box 44-25)

April 13th, 2005

On Wednesday, units from Hereford and Parkton responded for a report of a woods fire in the area of Weisburg Road and Bernoudy Road. Engine 441 arrived to find approximately 5 heavily wooded acres on fire. Numerous additional units, including Jacksonville’s Engine 473, were requested immediately. After several hours of battling the fire through the hills and deep into the woods, dozens of crews assisted by the Maryland Forestry Service were able to bring the fire under control by using portable tanks, cutting fire lines, and creating trails in order for brush units to gain better access to the fire. A total of 15 to 20 acres had been burned by the time the fire was under control.
